According to
legend, Valentine lived in the time of the
Roman Empire and has been adopted over the
years as the Patron Saint of Lovers.
There were plenty of loving couples
celebrating at Hallotree and thanks to our
hardworking Marshals who coped cheerfully in
the wind and rain, the weekend was enjoyed
by all.
Friday evening copious amounts of tea,
coffee and wine were consumed whilst
everyone caught up with friends both old and
new.
Saturday morning bought us yet more tea and
coffee, this time with delicious home made
heart shaped biscuits and a wide selection
of clothes for sale. Nails were done by Faye
and materials were available for us to make
our loved ones cards. Once more the Marshals
thought of everything.
After a lazy afternoon we proceeded to the
hall where our Chairman took flagpole and he
was able to present two couples with special
rally plaques rather a contrast with one for
50 rallies and the other couple with 400,
quite an achievement well done. Before the
Disco the proceedings were halted by a
vision of loveliness clad in a green knitted
romper suit, red velvet heart, G-string and
wellies prancing about delivering
Valentines!!!!!!!! Once the laughter
had died down the disco was able to proceed
and very good it was too.
During the interval a delicious ploughman’s
was served and the raffle drawn.
Sunday, those with the stamina were able to
do archery despite the strong winds that
endeavoured to blow the arrows anywhere but
on the target. (at least that was the excuse
used by the archers!!!!!!!!!)
It certainly seemed that the spirit of Saint
Valentine prevailed and love was in the air
not only for each other but also for those
less fortunate. Over £110 was collected for
June Davies in a sponsored "Alcohol Free
Weekend", well done June; the monies went to
the Chairman’s Charity. The raffle bought
forth well over £150 which was donated to
the Scouts.
So a good time was had by all and here’s to
next year.
Thanks to one and all.
