The 10 days from Friday 17th
till Monday 27th August 2007, saw
many ralliers descend on the usually quiet
town of Thorpeness . The track leading up
from the road to the site had not improved
over the years but with a steady right foot
all made it onto the site without incident.
On arrival we were greeted by the Marshals
and shown to our pitches.
On Saturday at the opening flagpole we were
informed by the Marshals of the program of
events that they prepared for us all to
enjoy. These ranged from children's
entertainment each weekday , a ploughman's
meal, two Discos, Talent show, cream teas,
bingo and a children's campfire with
singsong. Fresh water and Sea fishing
competitions. Something for everyone to
enjoy.
The annual carnivals at Aldeburgh and
Thorpeness took place and the float
procession on the Meare was brilliant.
Suffolk Centre entered a float a paddle
steamer manned by the children with all
dressed up looking superb. The fireworks
followed this which were extremely good.
It wasn’t long before my battery was showing
signs of discharge on the voltmeter, so
along with others out came the generator and
soon we were full up. It’s amazing how long
you can last on a battery, I went from
Friday to Wednesday. The sea drew many in
for a dip the waves were high and the
current strong but all bathed safely.
Three families attended who were 1st
ralliers we hope that they enjoyed the rally
and continue to join us on the rally field.
We had other visitors from North Essex, Mid
Anglia, Durham, Norfolk, and Hertfordshire.
Cyril and Joan Norman were presented with a
450th Rally Plaque quite an
achievement.
The Marshals all worked very hard to ensure
we all had a good time which was appreciated
by all, many thanks for a super rally.
