Saxtead Rally January 2006

1st Rally in the New Year

OLD MILL HOUSE, SAXTEAD

Winter Rallies are Cosy !!

There was a queue of caravans waiting to be sited by Friday afternoon. Everyone was trying to get pitched and boil a kettle before the sun went down at about 4pm. Yes, it was sunny and bright and we have known less friendly weather in October. The air was chilly though and it was definitely January.

The rally was held on the first weekend after the New Year. The parties and celebrations had hardly ended and we were back on the rally field. The first evening was spent relaxing with friends and chatting about recent Christmas activities and what to plan for the coming season. A quick "pint" in the bar and back to the vans to play some card games again.

Saturday morning was a lazy affair. A late breakfast followed by some reading and watching DVD's. So after lunch, we each grabbed a scarf and pair of gloves and took a slow walk to Saxtead Mill. The mill is not open to the public this time of year but there is an opportunity to take a picture or two.

Upon our return, Sue realised that she had lost a special necklace and so off we went to the Mill again with our heads to the ground. Paul, Steve, Mel & Tash all searched the rally field. Two hours later, it was found inside the lining of Sue's coat. I am not revealing who found it, but it was an interesting game to play for 2 hours !!

The Saturday evening meal in the Old Mill House was excellent !!  A varied menu and superb service. We used our £10 voucher and had a lovely evening.

The Saxtead Rally is in the Suffolk Centre programme again later in the year, so get your rally slip in soon as there is limited space. Failing that, take yourself along to the restaurant without your caravan and enjoy the Suffolk countryside, fine hospitality and great food.

Thanks Paul & Dave for a "cosy" rally !!!
