What a lovely , well organised rally this
was.
The fete on Saturday afternoon, plus the
children's races, and bouncy castle were
really enjoyed by everyone. The children all
played happily together, no tears or
quarrels. The meal as always was lovely,
followed by the disco, our Grandson Alex had
looked forward to helping Paul, and
thoroughly enjoyed it, our very young
grandchildren were treated very gently by
all of the older children. What a credit
they all are to their parents.
Many thanks for a lovely weekend to Jan,
Paul, and their team of helpers.
Beryl, Brian, &
Alex.

The
Annual Summer Fete
Over a hundred units filed onto the
Woolverstone Hall School field during
Friday. After queuing at Colin & Jo's chip
van and devouring a large plate of cod and
chips, we were relaxed and cozy under our
awning. The evening was warm and a bright
orange sunset was making the trees
silhouette at the back of the caravans
and motorhomes. The marshals had invited
everyone to have a chat with tea and coffee
and the new Suffolk Lines Newsletter was
handed out. There was a long and
enthusiastic chat had by everyone and much
laughter too. It was time to catch up with
our friends and see what they had been up to
since we last met.

Mick had a
big sign advertising his "bottle stall" and
Denis has a shopping basket full of tins,
jars and packets that he had persuaded the
ralliers to part with for the Tombola. There
was an array of prizes including a large
hamper, that would be included in the
raffle. A group of ralliers had been
preparing stands for the summer fete that
was to be held on Saturday afternoon. Over
the years, past Chairmen have held a summer
fete and Dave Totman had expressed his
desire to repeat this tradition at the
Chairman's Rally this year. |

There were ralliers of all ages this
weekend. Parents and grand parents, children
and grandchildren. The morning started with
a walk down to the river to see yachts
swaying in the gentle breeze. The sun was
again very warm although as the morning went
on, a few clouds allowed a rest from the
searing heat. After a light lunch, ralliers
started setting up gazebos, tables and home
made games. The marshals brought out the
bouncy castle and Dave declared the summer
fete officially open.

For two hours the crowd
strolled around the field playing games,
kicking footballs at targets, smashing
plates, buying cakes, clothes, books and
other bits and bobs and the bottle stall was
a huge success. The children were delighted
with the bouncy castle and it was the centre
of their fun throughout the afternoon. I
wonder how they managed to keep down the
strawberries and cream we all enjoyed. Cream
teas were served and yum ! Can I have
some more please ??!! |

Beryl was
looking quite sad because there was a rather
nice looking dinner plate with a picture of
a goose. "How on earth can we throw balls at
a nice goose like that !" said Beryl.
So Den rescued the plate and found a few
others too. Beryl paid for her turn and we
think she took the plates back to her van
without so much as throwing a ball. An
interesting take on the plate smashing
stall. We all had a chuckle about it.
Den was kept busy and a large box of broken
china was loaded into his car at the end. |

save - Picture courtesy of Trevor Smith |
The chance
to kick footballs into the holes was
irresistible to many in the crowd. Gary had
a queue of budding footballers.
After a while, Gary met his match and had to make some impressive saves to
prevent the balls for soaring across the
rally field. We think he will need a little
more practice before next year's National
Rally, but he will be a fine goalkeeper for
the Suffolk Football Team !
The cake stall was doing terrific trade and
we managed to buy a lovely home made sponge
for £2.
Derek was selling Suffolk Centre equipment
and was the model salesman, I found it very
difficult to resist the yellow tent pegs
after such a convincing sales pitch ! |
The white box had a crisp five pound note
inside but to get it you had to pick the
right key from a bag of keys. It was fun to
see all the keen ralliers trying to get
their hands on the money.
The afternoon continued and after a while,
folks started do move back to their caravans
to prepare for the evening meal. At about
5.30 the tables and chairs were out again
and at just after 6pm the food was served
followed by the traditional Suffolk Centre
Punch. |

After overnight rain, Sunday morning was
here. The draw was made at the flagpole and
ralliers started to pack away their
belongings for another year. There was just
time for some birthday cake and a cup of tea
with Alan before we prepared for the journey
home.
