The
weekend of the 19th 20th
and 21stof May saw the weather
forecast was not the best and left some
people with a gloomy outlook, but this was
not to be at this rally.
Friday
evening saw all the ralliers enjoying a
gathering in the hall. Starting with tea,
coffee and biscuits the evening followed
with our caller Derrick using an electronic
battery operated Bingo game. Following a
hectic sale of books by Margaret all were
armed with a pen or pencil and ready to go.
Never before has the hall been so quiet, so
as not to miss your number being called.
Many people won the lines and full houses,
the prizes were in keeping with the weather
– umbrellas, beer and mugs to name a few.
Some £63.00
was made in aid of the Chairman's
Charities.
Saturday came with a do as you please day
and in between the showers the children
enjoyed the play area. At 7pm all were
gathered with knives and forks at the ready.
Tomato and brown sauce adorned the
children's table. Derrick and the rest of
the marshals had cooked us all a super meal
to enjoy. Soup or juice followed by a
variety of sausages (cooked ala Totman and
Bergdhal style) new potatoes carrots and
peas, rounded off with apple strudel and
cream.
Music filled the hall courtesy of Chris
Stammers. The tables were cleared and plates
washed up. The music was wound up and off we
went . Many requests were made and Chris did
all he could to comply.
My favourite was an all time
classic by the ever popular Rolf Harris, The
Court of King Caractacus, this had most of
the children up and dancing. Why the
adults didn’t get up must have been because
they didn't know the actions ? The row
boat song had all the youngsters on the
floor with Amie at the bow and well I
couldn’t see the stern but we were kept on
an even keel throughout the song. The rest
of the evening had most people up and
strutting their stuff on the dance floor.
Sadly 11pm came too early and the last song
was played, so it was of to bed with lots of
tired children and a few adults.
Sunday following the Archers and Tea coffee
and biscuits was flagpole chaired by Dave
and Tracy Totman. This ended a super rally.
Many thanks to all the marshals who worked
so hard to make this all come together.
