A busy weekend rally at Clopton...

It doesn't seem possible that a year has passed since the last visit to Clopton. As predicted, the rally field was filling up nicely by the time we arrived just after lunch. The marshals were lining up the vans very precisely so that spacing was kept in accordance with the rules and the maximum number of units could be accommodated.

This was another beautiful warm weekend with Friday evening tea and coffee in the hall followed by a good old natter with friends. The draw was made for the target bowls so we all stood a fair chance of being put up against the "master of target bowls" Mick Prentice.

This year we were again woken on Saturday morning by Joe with his little electric lawn mower. The bowls area was marked out in good time for a 10.30 start and the hot sunshine meant that we could all gather round and be amused by the cheers and boos (all meant as fun) when scores mounted and near misses were had. Sue and Sheila served some cold beers to the watching crowd. It was a real treat to see a female bowler win for the third year in a row. This time it was the turn of Audrey Frettingham who claimed she was new to target bowls but brilliantly won the knockout competition and accumulated the best score of the day.

The evening entertainment was provided by Bryan Gordon after a splendid feast of cheese and wine. Although we know all the work was done in the kitchen by the ladies, the male marshals with encouragement from Nick dressed in their "pinnies and hats" and served the three or four different wines to us via the serving hatch. We were all singing along and dancing to familiar old tunes and chuckling to Bryan's humour during the evening.

Thanks to the marshals for a lovely weekend, to Bryan for a great evening of entertainment and to Mick for some of the funniest heckling during the bowls competition. See you again next year.
