On arrival, we drove down
the wide and welcoming private road to
the Rowley Mile Racecourse. Speed humps
were at regular intervals and I nearly
missed one as I was so absorbed by the
lush green meadows and gallops all
around. We finally approached the rally
field that was tucked between the
racecourse and the impressive and
imposing new stands. What a lovely venue
to hold Derek and Sheena's first
Chairman's Rally.
There was a stiff westerly
breeze, although the warm summer sun meant
that everyone was still able to sit outside
until late on Friday evening. We had been
warned that the Friday night racing at the
July Course may result in some crowd noise
and we could clearly hear the PA system in
the distance. However, a few of the ladies
(and the chaps!) were more than a little
excited that just a half a mile or so away,
there was to be a Boy Zone concert. And the
wind was blowing all the sound in our
direction ! Our Chairman didn't add
anything to the rally fee and it was a very
enjoyable concert thank you !
Saturday was
warm and overcast in the morning but by the
time we visited the Newmarket Stud, the sun
had come out and summer was back again. The
group were taken round the stud by a very
knowledgeable guide and everyone was amazed
at how interesting the tour was. So much
history too.
On Saturday
evening flagpole was followed by a glass of
wine and nibbles with our Chairman and Lady.
Derek & Sheena presented the Suffolk Punch
horse to David and Marcia Gomersall for
achieving 500 rallies.
Joy Youngs also received a plaque for 100
rallies.
After a while, most people went off to light
their barbeques and another warm summer
evening was enjoyed by all. The sunset came
at around 9pm and lingered in the sky for an
hour until it was too dark to see our glass
of wine.
Sunday was
another long hot sunny day. It started by
the marshals and all their helpers serving a
full English breakfast from 9am to 10.30am.
What a delicious way to start the day and
made even more enjoyable as all profits were
to be donated to the Chairman's nominated
charity.
Derek and Sheena would like to thank
everyone who attended breakfast and are
please to announce that
£145 was
raised for the chairman's charity.
Lots of lazing about followed breakfast
until it was nearly 3pm and time to start
packing up all our equipment. Lots of happy
ralliers left Newmarket and we were sorry
that it all ended so soon.
Thanks to Derek, Sheena,
Dave, Tracy, Terry and Joy for a
lovely weekend.

Fire Safety
Please ensure you have read the Fire Safety
Procedure on page 635 of your Sites Directory & Handbook.
Rally Marshals may not have fire extinguishers available on the
rally field in future.
From October 2009 it will be a Suffolk Centre
recommendation that all caravans attending a rally should have a "fire bucket" filled with water adjacent to their "A" frame.
It is recommend that you have a fire extinguisher and fire
blanket in your caravan in case of emergency and regularly check
the batteries in your smoke alarm.
