The 2007 Burn's Supper
Hallowtree, Nacton.
January
We arrived at the ever
popular Scout campsite at Hallowtree
expecting the field to be waterlogged after
all the rain and snow in the previous weeks,
but we were pleasantly surprised to find the
field well drained and firm underfoot.
After setting the van up, having a Friday
afternoon nap and chatting to friends it was
time to nip back home and pick up our
daughter and her friend from school.
Friday evening was spent in the hall
chatting to a hall full of ralliers and
catching up on all the gossip.
Saturday morning dawned bright and crisp,
breakfast was served by the marshals coming
round to each van with a huge tub of
steaming hot porridge.
Some hardy souls then walked off the
porridge with a long circular walk down by
the river, others just chilled out in their
vans.
Saturday evening and it was time for the
Burn’s Supper. We all queued up at the hall
waiting for the doors to open and when they
did we were greeted with a superbly laid out
hall, a tot of whiskey or orange juice and
Scottish themed music.
It wasn’t long before the hall was full of
hungry ralliers and the first course of
Scotch Broth was well on the way, this was
followed by the piping in of the Haggis and
all the finery of the speech (that I still
don’t know what is being said).
The main course consisted of the Haggis
(specially flown down from Scotland) with
tatties & neeps and cauliflower cheese.
Dessert was Oatcake with raspberries and
cream. the alternative, goulash looked
equally as inviting.
The whole meal was absolutely superb, the
marshals really excelled themselves, the
rest of the evening was spent chatting and
dancing to Terry’s tunes.

Sunday
morning dawned bright and dry again, as
Flagpole was held on the Saturday night we
just got tidied away said our farewells and
set off home.
Our thanks must go to our marshals for the
weekend Dave & Norma, Terry & Joy and
Derrick & Lesley who all worked extremely
hard to make everyone’s weekend very
enjoyable.
