The
Brightlingsea Carnival Rally 2006
What a wonderful weekend we all had at
Brightlingsea Carnival Rally. John Payne and
his assistants had got everything right
again this year. The site with its finely
cut grass, the weather and the colourful
carnival.

This year an entry had been made into
the decorated float competition. Paul
Fitch’s pick up truck was transformed into a
mobile wild west saloon bar. With cacti,
bottles of whiskey and the like, flags and
bunting adorned the vehicle. The children
all dressed up as cowboys as were the grown
ups. Brave people walked ahead of the float
holding The Suffolk Centre Banner just to
let all know who we are. Buckets were held
by most collecting for the Brightlingsea
Carnival committee for their charities. One
person was very popular with the crowd and
he must be one of the best ambassadors for
the Suffolk Centre namely Mick Prentice his
bucket was very full indeed. The Judges
were impressed by the float and awarded it
second place. Thanks to all who contributed
in the making of the float and thanks to
Paul for the loan of the vehicle and driving
it.

Sunday saw The John Payne crabbing
competition many entrants were gathered
around the boating lake with their crabbing
lines and after a short time the crabs were
grabbing at the various pieces of bait and
being hauled ashore and kept in buckets.
Nick Tyler had a struggle with a
particularly wise old crab but after a
struggle Nick won him over and landed the
thing only to have the crab chase him up the
bank .

The grown ups were able to
barbeque until the sun set and wow what a
sunset we had each evening. The heat from
the sun lasted until well into the evening
and some of us sat outside until it was
dark.
We even managed to get a silhouette of a bat
in the night sky ! No prizes for
guessing who fixed this photograph up eh
Brian ?!!?
Sunday afternoon saw the end of a super
rally with many ralliers leaving the field
as late as possible.
A big thanks to all the Marshals.
