BANHAM ZOO CHRISTMAS SPECTACULAR RALLY 2006

The Christmas Spectacular Rally 2006 was as it says on the label. What a super rally we had at Banham Zoo. To be greeted by Mother and Father Christmas on our arrival made up for a damp drive in the dark from Ipswich. The grass was as green as last year and the soggy muddy ground was as last year.

Dave & Tracy, John & Christine, Trevor & Sue all worked their socks off to give us all a real Christmas Spectacular.

Nearly everyone had illuminated their caravans with festive coloured lights, Father Christmas, stars, sleighs and Xmas trees, what a wonderful sight they made and well worth walking around after dark. Terry Young’s had a Santa and Sleigh nearly as long as his motor home. The judges had a very difficult time choosing a winner for the best decorated, but Steve and Mel Garrard came out on top with a superb display. Steve how can you improve on it for next year?

At 6pm Banham Zoo lights were lit and the Zoo took on a magical scene. It was a bit chilly so after a walk around it was into the hall for flagpole followed by a disco. Jan and Colin sold tickets for the raffle held at 9.30pm. Dave had trouble with his colour recognition. Perhaps he should have worn his glasses? Or next year use only one colour of tickets. He kept saying it was the lighting but who can believe that?

Well done and thank you to everyone for raising
£240 with the Grand Christmas Raffle.

Steve Garrard showed that the old can be as good as the new, he hitched up to a Toyota Land cruiser that was hitched up to a caravan and pulled them both out of the mud – or was it my tow rope?

Saturday night was rather wet and windy but Sunday dawned and the sky soon cleared to a lovely blue. After a visit to see Santa and the Zoo Xmas show it was time to clear up and go home.  Saying goodbye and Merry Christmas to all and lots of thank you’s saw us leave the rally field for the last time this year. Still we have a full year of rallying to look forward to.

Thanks to all the Marshals for yet again another super rally.

Den and crew.

   Christmas fun from the Webmaster....

Those of you that know him, will understand that we take every opportunity to get our own back. We see this person so frequently at rallies these days. He is always ready to tell a joke (well most of them are funny and the others I don't understand!) and he is always ready for the odd practical joke. He has been with the Centre just a few years but has supported us behind the scenes and we know him as "MR FIXIT". Only because he has a very kind heart when anyone has a problem with their equipment on the rally field, he will offer advice and try to help them. And he always seems to have a way of fixing things so they can enjoy the weekend. He must have a huge box of spares in the back of his truck !

Who are we talking about ?

Well who else... Steve Garrard !

Here he is in the picture, with his wife Mel.

Den mentioned that Steve helped us on the rally field at Banham. Without Steve, there would have been a lot more mud and stress. He came to the rescue with his Pajero, he calls it "a real 4x4" and in moments he had pulled half a dozen or more 4x4's out off the rally field so they could start their journey home.

Thank you, from us all for your help and support Steve !

But as it is Christmas, I think we should have a little joke on Steve. l have been waiting for the right time to publish a cheeky photo from last season, when Steve reluctantly called me for help. I was delighted to help him because it is so rare that we can pay him back. So now it is our turn !

Poor Steve had a little problem with his starter motor at Bob's Meadow and needed a tow to get the engine started. What a photo opportunity this was! Thanks to Sue for capturing the moment for us.

Happy Christmas Steve.... now we are even !

Wishing you, Mel, Tash and the boys a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
